Care Workers

Day 12 - Care Workers

“Then they will reply, ‘Lord, when did we see you hungry or thirsty or a stranger or naked or sick or in prison and didn’t do anything to help you?’ Then he will answer, ‘I assure you that when you haven’t done it for one of the least of these, you haven’t done it for me.’” – Matthew 25:44-45

Thank God for the volunteer Care Workers and their families, who are committed to sacrificially giving of themselves to serve the most vulnerable children. Pray that they will have the courage to advocate on behalf of the children and their families, even when this goes against the cultural norm. Ask God to give each Care Worker the spiritual eyes to see what is happening in the lives of the children. Pray that they will build relationships of trust and love.

The local Hands at Work team in Nigeria reflects on Sis Moji, one of the Care Workers in Temitope Community, Nigeria, who is caring for some of the most vulnerable children.

“When we first met Sis Moji, she was really struggling. We did a Holy Home Visit at her home and told her about the ‘Jesus We Know’ and also what God wants us to do for the orphans and the most vulnerable children in our community. After hearing about the vision, she decided to join as a Care Worker. And since she joined, she has not regretted it because God is always making a way for her.

She is always happy when she is playing with the children and when they are close to her. The children are happy when they see her, and that makes her happy. She sees the Care Point as her home. She loves caring for the children.”

Day 32 - Relationships between Care Workers and Hands at Work

Therefore encourage one another and build each other up, just as in fact you are doing. – 1 Thessalonians 5:11

Today we invite you to pray for the relationships between volunteer Care Workers and Hands at Work. Pray for Hands at Work to have wisdom in knowing how to support the Care Workers, and pray that these relationships will continue to grow, be rooted in the love of Christ and be filled with love and service.

Local Hands at Work teams across Africa regularly meet with the coordinators of the Community Based Organisations to deepen their relationships and to discuss ways in which, together, they can continually grow in their ability to serve the most vulnerable.

Day 27 - Youth Leaders

Let no one despise you for your youth, but set the believers an example in speech, in conduct, in love, in faith, in purity. – 1 Timothy 4:12

While some of our most vulnerable youth have found purpose in increasing their involvement at our Care Points by helping prepare and serve food or caring for younger children, others struggle with the constant draw surrounding them to unhealthy lifestyles and relationships. Hands at Work longs to invest in our youth and see them grow into healthy adults who love Jesus and desire to bring hope to their community. Pray for the senior leaders who are role models to these young adults, and pray that their lives speak louder than their words.

Nadin (front right in pink) grew up in the community of Toyota in the Democratic Republic of Congo. Having seen and experienced the Care Workers’ investment into her life over the years, she wanted to give back to others in her community.

Today Nadin is a member of the dedicated team of Care Workers caring for children in Toyota.

Week 6 - Christ as Our Foundation

Many of our Care Workers are wounded themselves. Pray for God’s transformational mercy and love to heal the inner wounds of our Care Workers. May our Care Workers in turn pour out mercy and love to our kids, and in doing so bring transformation and healing of their wounds.
